Architects have submitted plans for the construction of 194 new homes at Craigmillar town centre on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council’s 21st Century Homes house building programme.

Anderson Bell + Christie were appointed by contractor CCG to develop 122 flats and 66 terraced houses comprising a mix of social, mid and full market rents at Niddrie Mains Road.

The properties are to be located on plots 12-15 & 23 of the Craigmillar Town Centre Masterplan which provides for around 330 homes a retail centre, restaurant, community play area, new high school and improved public realm.

In their design statement the architects observed: “ABC’s current proposals comprise 194 units for social, midmarket and market rent across a range of house types and building forms, all set within a high-quality public realm.

“Our aim from the outset has been to provide a considered response that takes cognisance of surrounding buildings and street networks to ensure this phase positively contributes to the Masterplan, and its aspiration to provide a ‘community destination for Craigmillar residents, which is easily accessible by foot or public transport’.

“By providing a broad spectrum of homes, from 1-bed 2 -person flats through to 5-bedroom 7-person houses, the desire has been to create a neighbourhood that caters to a wide range of residents and families.”
