21 new projects to create 331 bed spaces for young people who are homeless

Property industry charity LandAid has approved grants worth £1 million to 21 projects which will create 331 bed spaces for young people who are homeless.

The charity’s latest projects to end youth homelessness, many of which will be funded by the RICS Pledge150 campaign, will support young people in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In total the RICS-supported projects will create 161 bedspaces, of which 60 will be directly funded by Pledge150.

In Scotland, YMCA Glenrothes provides emergency 24-hour support in hostels, and floating support in move on houses and flats, for a range of vulnerable young people. It also runs homelessness prevention help, including budgeting, mental health, teen parenting support and peer education programmes.

LandAid’s £11,865 grant will help fund the renovation of a three-bed terraced house or flat to create three new bed spaces for young people to move on to when ready to leave charity’s fully supported hostel.

In partnership with Fife Council, the charity plans to provide training and volunteering opportunities for local unemployed people during the building work.

The young tenants will receive personal and wide-ranging support from an individual case worker, which focuses on achieving positive outcomes for each young person’s emotional, health, financial, learning and other personal needs.
