Having purchased the Station Road site in February, CHA now plans to deliver a mix of amenity flats, general needs flats, amenity bungalow, wheelchair bunglalow and two and three-bedroom properties.

Frank Sweeney, group CEO, told Scottish Housing News: “The Association is delighted that the proposed new housing for the Mauchline site is now moving forward. The new houses will be very much in demand in this area.”

A planning statement said: “After carefully considering the existing surrounding housing developments, the proposals have been developed to reflect the nature of these, by providing an active frontage to Barskimming Road.

“All houses will be finished in red facing brick in a tone to complement the traditional Ballochmyle sandstone, which is found throughout the townscape of Mauchline, together with dark grey roof tiles achieving a colour similar to grey slate roof coverings. As a result the development reflects its setting, both in terms of buildings and materials, which will be low maintenance in order to ensure their longevity.

“The properties are designed to a high quality, they will be welcoming and easily accessible. Their design will enhance the surrounding housing stock and improve thereon in terms of both architectural quality and detail, whilst the mix of housing types will provide variety.

“Cunninghame Housing Association have a track record of delivering high quality affordable housing and the proposals are complementary to the existing surrounding housing.

“The site has been recognised as suitable for housing development for several years now as per the East Ayrshire Local Development Plan (LDP) and is identified as ‘effective land supply’.

“This application realises its potential and the development responds to housing needs within the authority for affordable housing.”

If approved, works are anticipated to start late summer 2020.
