The creator of Scotland’s most innovative design and architecture events today announces a fresh new approach to bringing together the country’s construction industry – Il Ballo del Doge, a Masquerade Ball in the grandest of Italian traditions.

Double S Events creator and organiser Sara Seravalli, whose hugely successful #DesignPopUp has connected the architecture, design and building communities in a series of original and highly regarded showcases, will host Il Ballo del Doge in Glasgow in February.

Sara, originally from Milan but now based in Bridge of Weir in Renfrewshire, will bring her rich Italian heritage to the fore in a unique event which will be forged in the heritage of the masked ball of 12th Century Italy in the style of the internationally renowned Carnival of Venice.

Sara explained: “Il Ballo del Doge is a new and exciting networking event for the building industry in Scotland and Double S Events is thrilled to invite established supporters and new friends to join us for what will be a devilishly fun evening.

“Il Ballo del Doge will follow a centuries-long Italian tradition inspired by the internationally renowned Carnival which takes place in Venice each year. I can’t wait to introduce our business friends and associates to what will become a unique and extremely valuable addition to the industry’s social calendar.”

And Sara added: “In the course of the evening our guests will have the chance to enjoy a sumptuous buffet and dance with The Covent Garden Minuet Company, who will even teach the Minuet and Gavotte. And, we will crown Best Costume winner on the night!”

The origins of Carnival date back to the Roman Saturnalia festival that traditionally heralded the new year. Initially a feast characterized by unrestrained enjoyment of food, drink and sensual pleasures through time the Carnival has spread across the world to become a byword for entertainment and merrymaking.

The Carnival of Venice is Italy’s most beloved event. It is an evocative and much-anticipated popular fest, unique in terms of its history, its masks and its atmosphere. Attracting thousands of visitors to Italy each year the Carnival continues the rich heritage of wearing the mask as a way to hide signs of social class, gender or religion. Nowadays, the mask adds to the fun and unique flavour of a culturally enticing evening.

Sara added: “Our Il Ballo del Doge will be seeking to embody the fun and best traditions of the famous Venetian Carnival. I am looking forward to introducing established and new contacts to what I trust will be a very special evening mixing business with pleasure.”

Sara launched #DesignPopUp in 2014 to great acclaim and has now expanded her range of events focusing on the construction, specification, architecture and design arenas.

#DesignPopUp is a temporary showroom to allow exhibiting companies to showcase their latest products and innovations to Scotland’s architects and designers. The exhibitions run for a few weeks during which there are workshops, seminars, private views and tailor-made meetings where developing design trends are on display.

The #DesignPopUp edition calendar has so far included Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen and during 2015 will expand to Manchester, connecting industry figures in a creative and collaborative environment.

Double S Events is also the brainchild behind the overwhelming success in 2014 of the first edition of #AmeetsA. A memorable and innovative charity event, #AmeetsA enjoyed the participation of more than 20 creatives who helped raise £20k for Enable Scotland by auctioning off their creations at a unique gala dinner.

There will be a 2015 event where even more participants will be invited to get involved and create something unique once again. For more information please visit the website.
