Bield offers unique volunteer role in West Lothian

Silver SurferBield is looking for a social activity co-ordinator in West Lothian to organise and run events and encourage tenants to become involved with group activities including bingo, dominoes or quizzes.

The “super organised” volunteer will help to facilitate an Inter-Scheme Challenge throughout several of Bield’s retirement housing developments in Fauldhouse, Whitburn, Blackburn, West Calder and Armadale.

The volunteer will be responsible for organising transport to and from the event, co-ordinating the activity, and making sure all events are communicated and managed alongside the local managers.

The volunteer is expected to attend all organised inter-scheme challenges, which will take place one afternoon every 4-6 weeks. They would also be required to work at Blackfaulds Court Retirement Housing Development on a regular basis, to assist tenants in building confidence to organise their own activities.

Volunteer development worker, Donna Dickson, said: “This programme has an extremely positive effect on our tenants. It allows them to get involved in a range of activities and socialise with others within the development, as well as within the community, it really enhances quality of life.”

The volunteer initiative reinforces ‘Free to Be’ ethos Bield, one of Scotland’s leading housing and care providers, which aims to help older people to make their own decisions and maintain independence whilst offering assistance if they need it.

A minimum six-month commitment is required. Enquiries are welcome from people of all ages over 16 and full training and support will be given and out-of-pocket expenses paid. Please call Cheryl on 01506 771 044 for more information.

Due to the geographical area the use of a car is preferred, but not essential if the volunteer can easily travel between the six developments.
