Bield seeking volunteers to help older people in Gorebridge

bieldBield is highlighting the important role that volunteers can play in assisting older people to enjoy happy and fulfilled lives.

The housing and care provider’s Emily Court development in Gorebridge is seeking friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to assist with the running of its weekly coffee morning.

Social activity programmes such as the coffee morning are hugely popular and have proven successful in encouraging tenants to keep active and socialise with others.

Emily Court is seeking volunteers who have free time weekly on a Wednesday morning from 9.30am-11.30am to assist in the delivery of the coffee morning and mingle with the tenants.

The social activity programme is central to Bield’s “free to be” ethos, which supports people to make their own decisions about how they live their lives while also being there to assist them when they need it.

Donna Dickson, volunteer development worker for Bield, said: “Our volunteers are an integral part of our development as they can often encourage service users to get out and about and meet new people, which we believe is very important.

“We are always looking for ways to enrich the lives of our tenants and help them attain our philosophy of being ‘Free to Be’. The positive feedback we have received proves that this programme is incredibly beneficial and rewarding for our tenants and our volunteers.”

If you have some spare time on a Wednesday morning and enjoy socialising with others, Bield would love to hear from you. Please note a minimum six-month commitment is required. There are two volunteer positions available.

Enquiries are welcome from people of all ages over 16. Full training and support will be given and out-of-pocket expenses paid. If you are interested or would like more information, call manager Jessie Thorburn on 01875 820832 or Donna Dickson on 0131 273 4095 or 07887 796 744 or email d.dickson@bield.co.uk.

Please note that this is a volunteer, unpaid position. We thank everyone for their enquiry; however, we hope that you understand that not all enquiries will result in volunteer placements.
