Brunton Design submits Dundee city centre flats and retail plan

Brunton Design has received formal instruction from its client to make an application for planning approval for its mixed-use development on Dundee’s Marketgait.

Under the plans for the prominent city centre location, the £6 million development will deliver 43 residential units as well as shops and a restaurant on the ground floor.

The plans, which take account of a neighbouring listed building, also incorporate charging points for electric cars.

Allan Mudie, senior partner at Brunton Design, told our sister publication Scottish Construction Now: “These are very exciting times for Dundee and we are delighted to be given the opportunity to contribute to the improvements in the city’s built environment. Our proposals, which follow more than two years of discussions with planning officials, will put a flagship development outside the waterfront area. It will be a contemporary building, using environmentally-friendly material, construction methods and energy sources.”

The site, currently occupied by a Shell filling station, is next to the former Henderson jute mill, one of the few Dundee mills to be designed by architects rather than engineers. Re-built in 1873 following a fire, the mill is now a B-listed structure.
