CALA to submit plans for 206 new Edinburgh homes

A detailed planning application by CALA Homes to build over 200 homes at Newmills Road, Balerno, as included within Edinburgh Local Development Plan, has been submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council.

The 206 properties will provide a wide variety of new homes including 68 three, four and five bed family homes, 10 four bed townhouses, 57 apartments, 16 cottage style apartments and 4 mews properties, ranging from one to three bedrooms.

CALA will also continue its commitment to building affordable homes with 51 one, two and three bedroom properties included in its proposals, to include apartments and housing for rent and a range of apartments for discounted sale

Craig Lynes, land director with CALA Homes (East), said: “After consideration of the issues raised at the recent public consultation, we are delighted to submit these plans, which reflect the Local Development Plan status for the site.

“We are aiming to develop a variety of quality homes, sensitively designed to complement the character of Balerno and we are confident our detailed plans demonstrate this.”

As well as home building, the proposals allow for improvements to the surrounding infrastructure and for the creation of attractive, useable outdoor space. It is anticipated that the development would ensure investment towards the improvement of cycling routes and the addition of new bus stops on Lanark Road West.

Other benefits this site offers include a new publicly accessible linear park, upgraded cycle routes to Curriehill Station and monetary contributions to help deliver transport improvements to Gillespie Crossroads, Hermiston Gait Park & Ride and an extension to Currie Primary school.
