The conference is aimed to bring new perspectives to the debate on the need for new tenement legislation.

The conference is also aimed to maintain the momentum of the Parliamentary Working Group on Tenement Maintenance, which has been meeting since March last year with the purpose of establishing solutions to aid, assist and compel owners of tenement properties to maintain their buildings.

The day will consist of content including a talk from a behavioural economic who will discuss how tenement owners can be “nudged” into action. Mediators will also discuss how to bring owners together to act more cooperatively. A leading law expert will also discuss how human rights may or may not, impact compulsory legislation which could reduce individual owners ability to block repairs.

The conference will be held on the 18th of September at the Lighthouse in Glasgow from 9.30am - 4.30pm.

Following the conference, delegates’ views on the reform of tenement legislation will be actively collected and put forward to politicians to aid the working group’s purpose of establishing new tenement legislation. Organisers have said this conference is a prime opportunity for delegates to have their views on what is needed to preserve our tenements put to Parliamentarians.

The conference is being organised by Scottish Civic Trust, Built Environment Forum Scotland and Under One Roof

Bookings for the conference can be made via Eventbrite. Tickets cost £45 for those who are waged with free places for tenement owners.
