Council welcomes new tenants in Kennoway and Glenrothes

Langside CrescentFife Council’s Affordable Housing programme has delivered a further 24 homes at Langside Crescent in Kennoway.

Consisting of a mix of houses, flats, bungalows and some larger properties, the development is built on the site of the old Kennoway Primary school. The replacement school has been built further up the hill.

During the construction of the homes, housing officers and apprentices visited the school explaining to the children what was happening.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, convener of the community and housing services committee, visited the site to meet new tenants.

She said: “It’s great to see people settling into new, good quality council housing that fits their needs. Fife Council is committed to investing in affordable housing across Fife. We are building homes for mid-market rent to help people who may have difficulty accessing social rented housing or buying their own home.”

Mrs Leitch, who lives in one of the new properties, added: “My last house was above the shops in Kennoway. It was very noisy and in the summer I couldn’t open my windows for the noise from people hanging around. I didn’t have a garden that I could sit in and hadn’t had for the last 13 years. There were 19 steps up to the property and it was getting more difficult to climb the stairs especially when I had shopping to take home.

“I now live in a property that is on the ground floor with my own garden that I can sit in. This has made things a lot easier for me as the stairs were becoming a struggle. It’s very quiet and less stressful here.”

Councillor Hamilton and Fife Council’s convener of housing, John Flaherty, have also welcomed new tenants Mr and Mrs Hay to their new home at Roxburgh Road in Glenrothes.

The site comprises 17 properties ranging from one-bedroomed flats to five-bedroom two storey homes.

Councillor Hamilton said: “We are pleased with our progress on this and our pledge to provide warmer, drier, healthier homes that will help to alleviate fuel poverty and improve living standards for residents.”

All of these properties offer high levels of insulation with low running costs.

Both projects are part of the council’s wider affordable housing programme to increase the number of affordable homes for rent across Fife.
