Fife housing plans move forward despite council opposition

Taylor-WimpeyPlans have been submitted for a housing development between Dalgety Bay and Inverkeithing which was previously rejected by Fife Council.

Taylor Wimpey has lodged a detailed planning application for 295 homes at Hillend Road at the Spencerfield site.

The plan was rejected by the local authority in July last year but the decision was overturned on appeal by a Scottish Government Reporter, leading to calls for a change to the ‘inconsistent’ Scottish planning system.

Taylor Wimpey’s land and planning director, Pauline Mills, said the submission follows the granting of planning permission in principle late last year, and the conclusion of Section 75 discussions.

“Our detailed proposal aims to deliver 295 new homes, of which 25 per cent will be affordable, allowing us to make sure there will be a wide mix of styles to appeal to a range of buyers, as well as a range of tenures,” she said.

“Our development will also provide a range of economic benefits for the local area including the creation of several hundred new jobs, and it will attract new customers to local businesses.

“In line with our agreement with Fife Council, we will also make contributions towards a fund for wider strategic transportation improvements, as well as local traffic improvements and upgrades as necessitated by our development.

“We anticipate a decision in the next few months, and we hope to be able to start work in summer/autumn 2017,” she added.
