Homes plan submitted for site of demolished Dundee multis

Derby Street DundeePlans have been submitted for up to 166 new homes on the site of the former Derby Street multis in Dundee.

Brought forward by Collective Architecture and Robertson Partnership Homes, the scheme aims to recreate the street patterns of the Victorian era with the creation of two blocks of accommodation formed around central courtyards and an area of public realm.

The development will consist of flats, townhouses, cottage flats and houses for Hillcrest Housing Association (82 units) and for Dundee City Council (84 units) with many reserved for wheelchair use and people with mental health and learning disabilities.

The project will also see the reintroduction of Russell Street, which will be built to Designing Streets principles, to help integrate the community.

David Zwirlein, Hillcrest Housing Association director of development and new business, told Scottish Housing News: “Our development for new affordable housing at Derby Street progressing to the planning stage marks an exciting milestone for the regeneration of the Hilltown area. In addition to Dundee City Council’s 84 properties, we will provide 82 new build, energy efficient homes for the City of Dundee at a time where the demand for good quality affordable homes has never been higher.

“Extensive consultation has been carried out in the local community and the feedback that we have received has been extremely positive about our plans. People are enthusiastic about the regeneration of the area so we are delighted to be working with our partners to deliver new homes which meet people’s needs and put the heart back into the Hilltown.”
