Housing association assists Maryhill Road with floral lift

Hanging baskets have been installed outside shops on Maryhill Road with the assistance of Maryhill Housing Association.

Maryhill and Summerston Community Council proposed the floral displays along the busy route and they were made a reality through collaboration by the housing association, community organisation the Coach House Trust, and ASDA.

Youngsters helped plant the flowers in the baskets at St Mary’s Primary School with soil and plants provided by the supermarket chain.

Jamie Ballantine of Maryhill Housing Association said: “This is the second year Maryhill Road has been given some flower power.

“And well done to Maryhill and Summerston Community Council for coming up with such a popular idea in the first place. The baskets undoubtedly enhance the appearance of Maryhill Road bringing colour and a striking floral appeal to the street.

“It was a real community effort with the St Mary’s Primary children, ASDA and the Coach House Trust all helping to make it a success.”

The hanging baskets were given free-of-charge to shops in the area known locally as “The Botany”.

Commenting on the transformation, local housing association tenant Maureen Dickie said: “They are very nice indeed and certainly make the row of shops look very appealing.

“A number of people have mentioned how summery the street is looking with its new hanging baskets.”
