Kingdom’s new Kirkcaldy homes boast low-cost power bills

Kingdom Housing AssociationKingdom Housing Association has completed its latest project in Kirkcaldy which will see 15 new energy-efficient flats available for Mid Market Rent (MMR) with power costs as low as £310 - £350 a year.

The £1.52 million project has created the 15 new homes at Ferrard Road as part of a Design & Build contract with local developer Abbotshall Homes, who have also been developing housing for sale on the site.

The Scottish Government provided £506,000 in subsidy to part fund the project which has created one one-bedroomed flat and 14 two-bedroomed flats at rents of between £352 to £429 per month.

Bill Banks, Kingdom chief executive, said: “We now have 257 properties available for Mid Market Rent and we have found there has been very high demand for the new homes.”

MMR properties are targeted at applicants who are in employment and require housing in the local area. Housing options for the priority group are often limited and MMR provides a high quality affordable housing option for many people in need of a home of their own.

All the flats have been designed to the Scottish Government Greener Standards, with high energy performance standards, where the estimated fuel costs, for lighting, heating and hot water are estimated to be in the region of £310 - £350 per annum.

Jim Murphy from Abbotshall Homes added: “Abbotshall Homes were pleased to provide the 15 flats at Ferrard Road for Kingdom Housing, forming the affordable element of our larger private development at this site. The affordable flats are spacious and very energy efficient and will offer comfortable family accommodation with reduced running costs for the new tenants.

“It has been a pleasure working in partnership with Kingdom throughout this project, from the initial discussions through to final handover of the completed units, due later this month.”

A number of training and employment initiatives have also been delivered as part of the project including work placements and apprenticeships which demonstrate the added value which can be gained through the delivery of affordable housing projects.
