Twenty-two Fife Council homes which form the final phase of homes for rent at Silverdykes are nearing completion.

The development which is a mix of flats and houses will bring the total number on the overall development built by Muir Homes to 57.

All the houses are highly energy efficient, meeting the council’s commitment to tackle fuel poverty, and all of the bungalows and ground floor flats have features to meet the specific needs of our tenants.

Doreen Smith, who is due to move into her new home soon, said: “I was in a two bedroomed upstairs downstairs house. Since I had an accident a few years ago it has become more difficult for me to manage the stairs and I needed a house on the ground floor.

“My dad has also moved here. He is 80 now and suffers from Parkinson’s and with him being in a three-bedroomed upstairs downstairs house, the stairs and size of the house was getting too much for him. The reason we asked to be moved to Cellardyke is because my daughter lives there and she keeps an eye on us both and looks after us.”

Cllr Judy Hamilton, executive spokesperson for housing & building services, visited the site to welcome the new tenants.

She said: “This is a lovely housing estate and it’s great to be back today to see it growing further to deliver more much needed affordable housing in the North East Fife area.”

Cllr Hamilton added: “As with the rest of the programme, these new homes will be warmer, drier, healthier homes and suitable for the needs of their tenants. We are allocating them to existing tenants which means that, in turn, we can free up their previous homes for other people and families to benefit from.

“Our Fife-wide Affordable Housing Programme, that will build 2,700 new homes by 2017, is gathering pace with more than half of the homes already built and occupied.”
