Linthouse Housing Association seeking two new Modern Apprentices

IMG_8740Linthouse Housing Association (LHA) took part in this year’s Glasgow Guarantee Jobs Fair event to promote careers in the sector and continue its search for two Modern Apprentices in housing.

All of Glasgow’s secondary schools were represented at Tuesday’s event and, while Sir Alan Sugar does not prepare you for the gurgle and volume of a room full of young people all keen to find out what employers have to offer, Linstone is confident that it cracked it.

Three members of staff were sent to represent Linthouse and demonstrate why its apprenticeship programme is a great opportunity for getting started in housing and in the working world.

Customer services manager Yvonne Rooney, customer services assistant Elaine Docherty and receptionist Tiegan Shearer, who has recently completed an apprenticeship very similar to what the Association is offering, were on hand to fly the flag for LHA and encourage applications for the two apprenticeship posts.

Together they spoke with over 120 young people within a tight three hour period.

Tiegan Shearer said: “I was shy at first, but then I soon got into the swing of it… it was good to speak to pupils and talk about this fantastic opportunity. I know how they feel as I was in the same position as them and I could confidently talk about how far I’ve come since leaving school. I’m nearly 19 and in my first full time job since completing my apprenticeship.”

IMG_8743LHA is looking for two young people, aged 16-19 who are unemployed, underemployed, or school leavers, for two MA positions for up to two years. They will get the opportunity to be part of its customer services team and learn all about housing management, estate management, repairs and maintenance, the day to day running of a very busy office, and be offered the opportunity to gain two qualifications - CIH Level II in Housing and SVQ Level II in Housing.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 12 March 2017, with interviews taking place the week commencing Monday 27 March 2017, so there is still time to make an application.

TO APPLY: Applications should be made via the Glasgow Guarantee website at http://glasgow.mappit.org.uk. Register and click the option that you are looking for employment. Go to vacancies and complete the application for Modern Apprentice in Housing with Linthouse Housing Association.

Elaine Docherty added: “We are very excited about welcoming new members into our team.”
