A free online event is being held tomorrow night to discuss Britain’s housing crisis.

Morning Star event to discuss Britain’s housing crisis

Hosted by the Morning Star, speakers include Steve Turner, assistant general secretary of Unite the Union, and the culture editor of Tribune, Owen Hatherley. Owen writes extensively on housing-related issues and is the author of Red Metropolis: Socialism and the Government of London, Landscapes of Communism, Militant Modernism and several other books.

Private renters’ campaigner Jade Welburn and student activist Laura Dickinson will talk about the housing crisis from the point of view of renters, particularly how it affects students and other young people.

The event coincides with the launch of the Communist Party’s Housing Charter – Homes for the People.

Lorraine Douglas, convenor of its Housing Commission, said: “Resolving the housing crisis means a shift away from treating housing as an asset to recognising that it is there to meet social needs and that local government must regain proper control over the type and tenure of housing being developed. It’s clear the private sector has no solutions for Britain’s broken housing market.  Only a massive programme of public sector house-building stands a chance of ending this nightmare for generation rent.”

The event takes place on March 17 at 7pm. Register here.
