The flats at Glasgow Road are set to be demolished

Significant investment is being made to transform sites at Glasgow Road and at New Park Farm in Cultenhove for the benefit of the local community, delivering on one of the council’s key priorities to provide more affordable homes.

At a meeting of full Stirling Council, elected members agreed to the demolition of an empty block of flats at Glasgow Road. The development will see the cleared site redeveloped with the potential to accommodate 8 new properties to help meet the significant demand for this type of property in the area.

At the same meeting, councillors also agreed to the purchase of 24 homes to be let as council housing from Ogilvie Homes at New Park Farm in Cultenhove.

The scheme will provide a range of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom properties, with tenants being allocated to the properties over the course of 2021. The development will also include bungalows, which will be well suited to households with a disability.

The project, which will also include bungalows which will be well suited to households with a disability, will receive a total of £1.37 million in Scottish Government grant funding to support the new affordable housing development.

Councillor Evelyn Tweed, housing portfolio holder, said: “Both of these projects will deliver high-quality, sustainable, affordable homes to the St. Ninians area. Stirling Council is committed to providing new homes for those who need them and these projects are a welcome boost to the provision of social housing in Stirling.”

Councillor Danny Gibson, joint depute portfolio holder for housing, added: “These new houses will improve the quality of life for many residents. Everyone has a right to a roof over their head and these new developments will help ensure everyone has housing that meets their needs.”

Councillor Alasdair MacPherson, joint depute portfolio holder for housing, said: “One of our key priorities is to build more affordable homes across the Stirling Council area. I look forward to seeing these projects getting underway and for new tenants to be able to access these new properties in the future.”
