New social housing development complete in Falkirk

Tom Manley_low res_Falkirk_CCG_3A new social housing development in the Tamfourhill area of Falkirk has been completed by CCG (Scotland) Ltd for Weslo Housing Management Ltd.

Situated in Carrick Place, the development boasts stunning views across the Campsie Fells and Ochil Hills and comprises sixteen one and two bedroom cottage flats and four three bedroom semi-detached homes. All properties have been allocated for social rent.

The homes were constructed using CCG’s bespoke Closed Panel Timber Frame System manufactured in the firm’s state of the art Off-Site Manufacturing facility in Cambuslang, CCG OSM.

‘Off-Site’ manufacturing is a construction approach that significantly reduces build time, improves environmental efficiency and minimises waste. Further, in aspiring to achieve a Silver Standard of accreditation, residents will benefit from the installation of solar photovoltaic panels and other energy saving products.

Heather Purdon, one of the new residents at Carrick Place, said: “I am absolutely delighted with my new home and can’t believe my luck. The estate is well done and the view is amazing - I can see the Wallace monument from the back garden from the minute you walk through the front door into the spacious hallway, you get a really homely feel.

“I have never known a new build to have such great storage space and power sockets - it really is the cosiest home and so energy efficient - all bills will be kept to a minimum. My new house has surpassed all my expectations and I am enjoying living here so much.”

The use of our offsite manufacturing approach is of significant benefit for residential builds due to the enhanced housing quality standards and energy efficiency ratings achieved.”

Weslo Housing Management Ltd has a portfolio of 2,400 homes for social rent in West Lothian and Bo’ness.

Mike Bruce, chief executive of Weslo, said: “After 9 years of actively trying to get some much needed social housing on this area of land, we are absolutely thrilled to see the houses complete and the new tenants so happy with their new homes.

“Designed to full varying needs space standards, the houses also incorporate an enhanced ‘Silver Standard’ energy specification, including photovoltaic solar panels which will ensure minimum running costs for the tenants. In finally delivering, we are grateful for the support and encouragement received from Falkirk Council and the grant assistance from the Scottish Government.”

Councillor Gerry Goldie, housing convenor for Falkirk Council, added: “We are delighted at the strength of our collaborative working with our RSL partners to meet the objectives set out in the Local Housing Strategy. Falkirk Council welcomes the additional homes built in Carrick place by CCG and Weslo, and the regeneration of this area of land.”
