Parkhead chief Jim Strang elected as next CIH vice president
Jim Strang has described becoming the next vice president of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) as the “greatest achievement of his career to date” after winning an election of the organisation’s members.
The Parkhead Housing Association chief executive received 61.5% of the 1,750 votes cast during the election, which closed on Monday 31 July, compared to fellow candidate Paul Butterworth’s 38.5%.
Mr Strang will replace Alison Inman when she steps up to the role of president in September.
Jim said: “Firstly, my thanks go to Paul Butterworth for a really enjoyable and competitive campaign. I think we offered the membership a genuine choice and that both candidates were distinct and sincere in their vision for the CIH.
“I’m absolutely delighted at the result and I look forward to working with my good friend and colleague Alison Inman during her year as president.
“I am also looking forward to renewing my close working relationships with the brilliant CIH staff and the governing board. I will strive to connect with the membership and also to find ways to attract new members into the CIH to secure our future as the leading voice of our sector.
“Today is, for me, the greatest achievement of my career to date; there can be no better accolade than having the support of your peers and becoming the leader of your profession. I thank each and every one of you who took the time to take part in the campaign and to vote. I fully intend in making my mark on our profession over the next year as VP and then as your president.”
Paul Butterworth, the head of social housing at law firm TLT, said: “This campaign has been one of the standout moments of my career and I am honoured to have had the chance to run and speak to so many people about the future of the CIH and the housing profession. I am grateful to everyone who voted for me and looking forward to continuing my work with the CIH.”
Terrie Alafat CBE, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Housing, said: “We’re delighted to announce that Jim will be the next vice president of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
“Jim will be a great successor to Alison Inman and together they will make a great team.
“I was really impressed by both candidates and their passion and enthusiasm for CIH. Paul should be extremely proud of the effort he has put into his campaign.
“Thank you to all of the members who voted and we look forward to working with Jim when he becomes vice president next month.”
