Pentland Housing Association housing officer, Yvonne Gunn, is preparing to participate in Social Bite’s Sleep in the Park next week, her second sleep-out event in a matter of weeks.

Although she is the only one from her organisation to take part, Yvonne is set to join a large contingent from the social housing sector at the event, which has been organised to help raise money to eradicate homelessness in Scotland.

Yvonne is no stranger to sleeping rough for a good cause. Alongside Pentland Housing Association finance officer, Lesley Gunn, she slept out on October 6 to support Friends of Annie which supports young people when they leave the care system, raising £368 for the event.

Speaking to Scottish Housing News, Yvonne said: “I decided to participate in the Sleep in the Park after hearing about it on the radio but thought that it was going to be by ticket only, however MFR, our local radio station, then ran an advertising campaign and through that I was able to register.

“It is very rare that we have rough sleepers in this area, but homelessness falls into all types of categories and obviously we deal daily with all types of situations.

“I, like all housing officers, am passionate about my job and care deeply about what we do and the effect we have on peoples’ lives, hence my enthusiasm to support this fantastic cause.”
