River Clyde Homes offers an antidote to the winter blues

Winter partyOver 350 customers enjoyed one of the two winter parties organised at the end of November by River Clyde Homes.

The afternoon events in Port Glasgow and Greenock were aimed at customers aged over 75, or who lived in one of the housing association’s eight sheltered housing complexes.

For the past two years we have organised campaigns to support elderly customers over the cold winter months. In the past, winter help packs containing a torch, a blanket and gel hand warmers were issued to customers.

This year, guests were treated to a light lunch, refreshments and musical entertainment provided by the Clydeside Singers who took a nostalgic trip through popular songs from the last five decades. There was also a chance to participate in some relaxing Tai Chi.

One guest, Mary Paton of Kilmacolm, emailed River Clyde Homes saying: “I had a lovely time at Port Glasgow Town Hall on Tuesday. What a boost for winter! Thank you to all concerned for all the care, consideration and thought that went into the preparation for a great afternoon. You certainly know how to cater for the elderly.”

Katrina Anderson, a tenant board member at River Clyde Homes, said: “I attended the Greenock event and took the chance to speak to many customers and they really appreciated the chance to get out and socialise of an afternoon. At River Clyde Homes we recognise the impact that the long winter months can have on some of our most vulnerable residents.”

Elizabeth Grant, another tenant board member, said: “This has been a great initiative that encouraged elderly customers to get together for a sociable afternoon. At the Port Glasgow event I attended people told me it was a great way to be able to meet their friends and to meet new people. I would like to thank everyone involved in making these winter parties such a success.”

Jane Wallace, extra care manager at River Clyde Homes, added: “I’ve been delighted with the positive feedback from customers and to hear how much enjoyment these events have brought. I have been especially pleased to hear from customers who say they do not normally have a chance to get out and socialise.”
