River Clyde Homes to continue staff community volunteering initiative
Now in its second year, the housing association’s Working In Neighbourhoods (WIN) initiative offers staff the opportunity to give 14 hours of their working time to the benefit of projects in the local community that are close to their hearts.
Sandra McLeod, director of housing and customer services at River Clyde Homes, said: “From the outset, River Clyde Homes has always said it’s about more than just bricks and mortar. The charitable activities our teams have been involved in over the years have been phenomenal. The WIN initiative formalises and encourages staff to participate in the Inverclyde projects they support.”
Staff will be taking part in ten projects across the area on Wednesday 16 September. These projects have been identified in consultation with local communities. Projects range from volunteering at the local Starterpacks charity project to providing practical help to local organisations such as iZone in Port Glasgow to working on projects that will make a difference to local communities such as a litter pick at The Cut at Overton Road. There’s even some work happening to prepare for a small community garden at George Road, Gourock.
Following these events, staff will then be able to choose to spend more time supporting a local activity of their choice. But the emphasis will be firmly on benefitting the Inverclyde community.
Jillian Moffat, a board member at River Clyde Homes, she said: “The WIN project is about us giving back something to the local community and we are hoping to make a big impact next week. Our staff have been really enthusiastic about the projects they’re working on, some of which they suggested themselves. But I would encourage communities and charitable groups to come forward and let us know how we can help them with projects. After the success of last year’s events, I’m hoping for great things.”
River Clyde Homes’ office will be closed on Wednesday 16th to allow the WIN projects and staff training to take place.
