Sanctuary’s £60 million transformation of Glasgow’s Anderston has been formally recognised with CIH Scotland’s Excellence In Regeneration award.

Sanctuary Scotland worked with the local community, Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council to transform Anderston’s housing stock.

The 10-year project saw many 1960s buildings demolished and replaced with 540 high quality, affordable homes.

Community-led public art and the restoration of the area’s 1960s street plan are among the regeneration’s many other achievements.

Peter Martin, Sanctuary’s group director – development, said: “We’re extremely proud to have won this award over the other excellent regeneration projects shortlisted.

“It is testament to the hard work of our staff, our contractors and our architects, plus the unwavering support received from the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council.

“Local residents played a major role in shaping the regeneration. The outcome has transformed Anderston, its housing and helped to strengthen the area’s renowned community spirit.

“Sanctuary’s significant investment in Glasgow will continue with our ambitious redevelopment of the iconic former Victoria Infirmary site.”
