Neighbourhood housing officers at Scottish Borders Housing Association, Lisa Pegg, paid a visit to Burgh Primary School in Galashiels last week, to talk to them about her job.

Lisa spoke to a Primary 4/5 class, and then a 5/6 class, and after chatting to them about what she does, Lisa had to answer some tough questions from some exacting interviewers.

The children then had fun assigning houses to a caseload of clients made up especially for them – it was tougher than they thought, with only seven houses available and seven families looking for somewhere to stay.

After that, the children designed their own house-shaped keyrings.

Lisa said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Burgh School and the kids were so enthusiastic in the group work exercises. I was surprised by how many questions they asked.”

Among the questions Lisa had to deal with were: “Are you very tired after working all day?”, “How do you know who is all going to bid for the houses?” and “Do you put for sale signs in the gardens of the houses?”

“We might have some budding housing officers among this lot,” Lisa added.
