SHARE/CIPFA Corporate Governance programme

SHARE/CIPFA Corporate Governance programme

The dust has settled, the assignments are complete and the certificates have been issued. The long-awaited and fully subscribed first SHARE/CIPFA Corporate Governance programme is finished.

Julie-Ann Cloherty, learning and development office at SHARE, said: “This was something of a pet project which started with a conversation with network colleagues two years before the first session. There was a definite gap in the market.

“Corporate services colleagues felt there were limited options in terms of learning opportunities from recognisable industry names that helped them grow and develop. And nothing aimed specifically at the social housing sector, with all its funny quirks and serious regulatory frameworks.

“In terms of fulfilling the brief, I was struck by two issues. Firstly, the value delegates seemed to take from being able to discuss these big governance issues with colleagues who are going through the same trials and tribulations, with many commenting that they will take points from their fellow delegates back to their own organisations. The second point was the opposite of the first; working with, discussing and analysing governance issues that have arisen in other sectors was also a well-received dimension of this course. It seems that is it useful and reassuring to know that the governance issues we all grapple with can happen in any sector, big or small.”

Here’s what some of our delegates thought of the course:

  • I found the course really useful, it was well structured and applicable to our sector. I felt the opportunities created to discuss and share experiences with other participants very helpful.
  • All was excellent, I especially enjoyed the strategy section and case studies
  • I really liked the case studies as this really gave a feel for where other organisations went wrong and steps to ensure we can avoid issues like that.

To be awarded the ‘certificate of achievement in Corporate Governance’ delegates must submit a reflective assignment.

The programme will be delivered one day per month for three months.
