SHARE’s AGM – a celebration of learning

SHARE’s AGM, which celebrated the learning and development undertaken through the organisation, was held on January 28.

Olwyn Gaffney, SHARE’s learning & development manager, chaired the meeting. She advised that the AGM had been delayed from the previous year due to challenges around the pandemic and because of the very sad and unexpected passing of Alan Ferguson, SHARE’s director.

Pauline Munro, SHARE’s marketing & events manager, took attendees through SHARE’s achievements which included a good financial performance with; 2720 delegates attending a SHARE training course, 965 delegates attending SHARE events and 155 delegates from 43 organisations attending the annual conference. New events had been delivered such as the first Women in housing Scotland conference and the new Governing Body Exchange conference aimed at Committee/Board members.

In tribute to Alan Ferguson, attendees heard from Martha Hutcheson, committee member at SHARE and corporate services manager at Glen Oaks, who talked about the attributes Alan had as a great leader and how she, the SHARE team and the committee and will miss him. Ian McLean, chief executive at Bridgewater Housing Association, and Robina Qureshi, director of Positive Action in Housing, talked about their memories of Alan and their great friendship.

Lisa Scott, SHARE’s chair, thanked Martha, Ian and Robina for their lovely words and tribute to Alan. Lisa highlighted that courses, events and other services such as Appraisals have all moved to a remote delivery and that this has also enabled sector colleagues, who are spread across Scotland, to engage with SHARE much more easily. Lisa announced that SHARE’s brand-new SHARE/CIPFA Governance course had commenced with every delegate place filled. Lisa thanked all the committee and SHARE team for their work over the year.

There were two nominations for the vacancies on SHARE’s executive committee. These were Andy Bryant from East Kilbride Housing Association and Christopher Warwick from Calvay Housing Association. Both nominees have been appointed to the SHARE committee. Rebecca Howden from Calvay Housing Association and Allan Bell from Elderpark Housing Association stood down from the SHARE committee in October. Olwyn Gaffney, on behalf of SHARE thanked both for their hard work and time on SHARE’s committee

A key part of SHARE’s AGM is the celebration of learning. Victoria Phelps, chair of Pineview Housing Association, talked about the Governance of Scottish Housing Associations (GOSHA) qualification, Lyanne Leslie, housing manager at ng homes, talked about her experience in undertaking CIH Level 3 and 4 in housing practice and Elaine Hyslop, housing manager at Garrion Peoples Housing Co-op, talked about working with SHARE to support their Modern Apprenticeships.

Olwyn thanked everyone one for coming along to the AGM and for their continued support.
