A consultation into the plans was held in 2018

Banks Property had hoped to secure permission for the new development, which included 25 affordable homes, on a 5.6-hectare Stockbridge site to the north of Symington Road South.

Proposals included a mixture of terraced, semi-detached and detached two-storey properties offering two, three or four bedrooms.

Planning officials had recommended refusal of the plan after a council report said it was significantly contrary to the spatial strategy of the development plan.

The application also attracted 17 letters of support and more than 30 objections with people voicing concerns over traffic, flooding and noise. Symington Community Council also opposed the development.

A planning statement from Banks Property had said: “The vision for Stockbridge, Symington, is to create a sensitively designed, high quality development that respects the sites’ edge of village setting whilst providing much needed housing.

“The development will be of an appropriate scale that fits in with the character of the village of Symington.”

Councillors voted unanimously in agreement to reject the application.

Conservative group leader Councillor Martin Dowey said: “It is not in keeping with the local development plan. It was a quick decision.”
