South Lanarkshire appoints Lovell for £2.1m multi-storey upgrade

Generic Lovell imageHousing refurbishment firm Lovell has been appointed by South Lanarkshire Council to carry out £2.1 million of improvement work to transform a multi-storey block of flats in Cambuslang.

Work is set to begin early in 2016 on the 40-week programme for Kyle Court, off Main Street in the town centre, which will make the tower block warmer and more energy-efficient, lowering fuel costs for residents. The transformation is part of South Lanarkshire Council’s HomeHappening programme of investment for council homes across the area.

Lovell will carry out major external improvements including repairs to the outer walls and the installation of an insulated render system for the Kyle Court building. The refurbishment team will also replace external windows and doors, carry out repairs and replacement of external lighting and cabling and replace lightning protection systems.

The company will liaise closely with Kyle Court residents who will remain in their homes as the work goes ahead. A specialist Lovell resident liaison officer based at the scheme will be residents’ main point of contact, keeping them informed and ensuring that the programme goes smoothly and with the least possible disruption. The resident liaison officer will also identify opportunities for Lovell to create benefits for the local community through the scheme as part of the company’s Lovell Legacy commitment.

“We are excited to have been chosen by South Lanarkshire Council to deliver this major programme of improvements for Kyle Court, drawing on our wide-ranging experience of high-rise refurbishment programmes,” said Lovell regional director Alan Taylor. “The upgrading will significantly improve the lives of residents.”

The Kyle Court project - awarded to Lovell following a competitive tendering process - is the latest in a series of major housing schemes by Lovell for South Lanarkshire.

These include 22 environmentally-friendly new council homes for the local authority which Lovell is building at Belmont Drive, East Kilbride on the former site of Canberra Primary School. The company has also previously carried out a successful large-scale housing refurbishment project for the council at five blocks of flats at Greenhill Court, Rutherglen.
