South Lanarkshire tenants to have say on 3.95% council rent increase

Over the next couple of months South Lanarkshire Council tenants will be able to give their views on the level of rent proposed for 2019/20.

A series of local meetings are scheduled to take place during November. The focus of these meetings will consider the proposed rent increase for 2019-20 as well as the proposals and priorities for the year ahead.

In last year’s consultation tenants told the council they would like to agree rent levels over a longer period, and the council had therefore agreed a three-year rent strategy and to review it annually. In keeping with the three-year agreement, it is therefore proposed that the rent level for 2019-20 would increase once again by 3.95%.

Annette Finnan, head of housing services at the council, said: “It is hugely important that decisions on the level of rent are made in consultation with our tenants. This year provides an excellent opportunity to discuss the key influences and the future investment priorities to tenants’ homes that all impact on the level of rent income needed.

“It is extremely important that tenants get involved and take the opportunity to attend any of the events to give their views.”

A number of meetings will be held to ensure as many tenants as possible have the chance to take part.

Tenants can also give their views through an online survey at https://tinyurl.com/SLC-RENT-19.
