Springfield’s family values ‘key’ to industry hat trick

Springfield Awards Low REsFamily run house builder Springfield Properties has swept the board at this year’s industry Oscars and believes that its family-values is what keeps it the people’s favourite.

The company, which has nineteen developments across Scotland, was announced as the Homes for Scotland’s House Builder of the Year earlier this month. The industry accolade follows three further wins for the family builder at the same awards.

Springfield customers enjoy an unprecedented level of specification included in the cost of home. The recently launched ‘It’s Included’ campaign, secured the Best Customer Service Initiative Award for the second year in a row.

HR manager Heather Henderson was presented with the industry’s Employee of the Year Award for her dedication, company understanding and her natural ability to do what is best for Springfield and its employees in one action.

The five Springfield homes at Powderhall Gate in Edinburgh earned the Best Small Development Award and eleven townhouses at Corstorphine Mews, also in Edinburgh, were highly commended.

Managing director Innes Smith said: “We believe in delivering the best for our customers. These awards are a testament to the hard work and focus of our staff in making this possible. It is their investment in building the very best homes that comes through in the quality of their design, construction and customer services throughout.

“A few years ago, Springfield was an unknown name in the central belt, thanks to our dedication to customer service, a Springfield home is now a popular choice in Scotland.

“This is a family business and we will continue to put our customers at the heart of everything we do.”

The company currently employs more than 420 directly and has approximately 1000 people working on their projects every day. Springfield aims to have apprentices make up 10 per cent of the work force. They encourage development for their staff too, by offering further training resulting in strong staff retention and loyalty.

Brian Hadden, 54, joined Springfield as the first site manager in 1998 and is now a construction manager. Since then his two daughters have joined the family builder.

Lynne Hadden, 28, started at the Elgin office as an office junior in 2003 and with training and support, is now the company’s management accountant. Sister Diane Kemp, 29, joined in 2007 as a receptionist and is now supporting the firm’s back office as a legal and HR administrator. She is also working on her further professional qualification in HR.

The family trio very much enjoy working together.

Lynne said: “It is great to work together. We are a close family, but none of us work too closely together or report directly to one another in the office, but we can always rely on each other for help and support. It’s a great place to work. It feels like one big family here. Everyone here looks out for our customers and we all look out for each other. Having your father and sister working with you is the icing on the cake.”

Established in 1956, Springfield Properties is a family business run by, Sandy Adam, chairman and grandson of the founder. The family values have formed the company culture.
