Summerston site earmarked for new neighbourhood
An application has been submitted to Glasgow City Council seeking planning permission in principle for a residential development in Summerston.
Caledonian Properties wants to create a “high quality” neighbourhood on land bounded by the River Kelvin, Blackhill Road and Balmore Road.
The number of proposed homes is not revealed in the application however, a transport assessment examined the impact on the surrounding area of a 500-home development.
The homes will be mainly two storeys, providing a mix of two, three and four-bedroom dwellings. Houses will generally be detached, but interspersed with semi-detached and terraced units.
Further details of the scheme would need to be approved at a later date.
A report submitted on the applicant’s behalf states it has “ambitions to create a new high-quality residential neighbourhood in Summerston”.
“The site at Summerston, provides an exciting opportunity to deliver a new neighbourhood with a strong character and real sense of place,” the report adds.
“A clear vision has been established that will create an attractive expansion to the Summerston area in a relevant and sustainable way.
“The design proposals will achieve a high-quality residential development with generous garden and open space provision.”
