Tenants move into West Lothian council homes as work starts on new site

West Lothian CouncilWest Lothian Council has started on a new development of 86 council homes at Wester Inch in Bathgate.

The £8.4million site is located at Leyland Road in Wester Inch adjacent to the Birniehill Roundabout, Bathgate and is one of the largest sites which are part of the council’s programme to build 1,000 new council homes.

Being delivered by the council’s contractor Lovell, the homes consist of bungalows, cottage flats and 2, 3, 4, and 5 bedroom houses.

Council leader John McGinty joined executive councillor for services for the community, George Paul on site last week to mark the start of construction.

Councillor McGinty said: “Wester Inch is a fantastic community and a great place to live. I am sure the new council homes will enhance the area further for generations to come. These new homes will be built to an extremely high standard and provide much needed affordable housing for many families, and those on the council housing waiting list.

“The council is building 1,000 new homes across all ward areas and we know that our programme will have a huge impact for many people in West Lothian.”

Councillor Paul added: “Affordable housing is in high demand across the country and West Lothian is no different. The council’s 1,000 new build programme is already having a positive impact on many residents and it is tremendous to see this new site at Wester Inch get underway.

“So many people will benefit from this development alone, including families.”

Meanwhile, tenants have started moving in to new council homes at Redhouse in Blackburn.

One hundred new council homes are being built at the site.

The first batch has been completed and 12 homes have been handed over to tenants, with more expected in the coming months.

The site is located across from Happy Valley Road, Blackburn and will consist of one and two bedroom cottage flats, two, three, four and five bedroom houses and one, two and three bedroom wheelchair accessible bungalows.

George Paul said: “The quality of the new build homes at other sites are fantastic and the new homes in Blackburn will be the same.”
