Tower improvements strategy delivering benefits to North Lanarkshire tenants

Milton_Court_Airdrie-_Tower_Strategy_2A series of improvements carried out by North Lanarkshire Council at Milton Court in Airdrie are making a positive difference to the environment and to the tenants living there.

Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, Councillor Jim Logue, visited the tower to look at the improvements carried out under the council’s Tower Strategy, and spoke to residents Mr & Mrs Waite about their experience of tower life.

Milton Court in Airdrie was re-designated as over 60’s living. As part of the council’s improvement strategy to continue to ensure services effectively meet the needs of tenants, substantial external environmental improvements were recently completed.

These include providing a further 30 parking spaces making access easier for disabled tenants and also soft landscaping works carried out to improve the general appearance of the outdoor areas and make them more pleasing for the tenants.

Andrew and Mary Waite, who have lived in Milton Tower for ten years, said: “We’re delighted with the improvements made at the tower and love living here. It’s a great place for older people to live and there is so much to do. We’ve just celebrated our Diamond wedding anniversary and held our celebration within the tower’s common room. There’s a real sense of community in our tower and it’s great to have so many friends here.”

Councillor Logue added: “It was a pleasure meeting Mr & Mrs Waite and great to hear about their experience of living in Milton Court.

“Our Tower Strategy aims to improve the safety and security of towers, ensure they are maintained and that the blocks and common areas are effectively and efficiently managed.

“Not only are we continuing to invest in our towers but we are improving the lives of residents, particularly at Milton Court. It’s been great to hear about Mr & Mrs Waite’s positive experience and to have the opportunity to congratulate them on their recent Diamond wedding anniversary.”
