An organisation which provides residential accommodation for ex-UK servicemen and women has been chosen as charity of the year by Mast Architects.

The Glasgow-based architectural practice led the design team on Scottish Veterans Residences (SVR) Bellrock Close housing development in Glasgow which opened in 2014 and has since won a number of awards including a commendation for innovation in the Saltire Society Housing Design Awards

The team at Mast Architects will engage in a number of sponsorship and fundraising events over the course of the year with all proceeds going to support SVR’s work with homeless veterans throughout Scotland. The firm has previously been involved in fundraising for the charity, including its participation in the 2013 Glasgow Half Marathon which generated £2,625 in donations.

Mast Architects director, Mark Johnstone, said: “We have established a very close working relationship Scottish Veterans Residences, helping deliver their award winning transitional supported accommodation project at Bellrock Close in Glasgow. We are now delighted to further demonstrate our commitment to corporate social responsibility and offer additional support as a commercial fundraising partner for the charity to help them in the important services they deliver for ex- service people.”

Susie Hamilton, fundraising and marketing manager at SVR, added: “We are delighted to be selected as Mast Architect’s charity of the year. Along with the firm’s significant professional contribution in the building of our Glasgow housing facility, Mast has a great track record in CSR, including previous fundraising activities to support of our work as a charity. We look forward to its support in the year ahead.”
