Volunteers sought to help Dunbar older people stay connected

Silver SurferA Bield retirement housing development in Dunbar is looking for tech savvy volunteers to help expand activities offered to its tenants.

Southfield Court in East Lothian is looking for volunteers as part of its Silver Surfer Project, a project that aims to teach tenants how to stay connected to friends and family through the use of modern technology, such as PCs and iPads, as well as learn how to use the internet.

Kate Donohoe, manager at the development, said: “It would be great to have some Silver Surfer Tutors in the development as we think that the tenants will enjoy the opportunity to learn.

“We feel that this tutoring will help to break down the barriers that may be stopping some our tenants from learning all of the wonderful things that modern day technology has to offer.

“The Silver Surfer Project is one that really helps to enrich the lives of our tenants and we genuinely feel that tutoring will encourage tenants to live by our free to be ethos with access to a whole new digital world.

“These kind of projects are also great because they allow our tenants to keep in touch with friends and family via the likes of email and Skype, which we believe is really fantastic and incredibly important.”

Days and times are flexible and Bield request that volunteers commit to a few hours a week for this role.
