West Dunbartonshire community groups urged to bid for £1.7m town centre funds

West DunbartonshireA proportion of a £1.7 million pot is up for grabs for West Dunbartonshire communities keen to make a difference to their town centres.

The Scottish Government funding has been made available via the Town Centre Communities Capital Fund.

The fund is open to community organisations and aims to support capital projects which will make lasting improvements to town centres.

The fund follows a National Review of Town Centres in 2012, which resulted in plans to put the health of town centres at the heart of decision-making.

Councillor Patrick McGlinchey, convener of West Dunbartonshire Council’s infrastructure, regeneration and economic development committee, said: “The council remains committed to economic growth and we are investing heavily in our own town centres to give them a sustainable and successful future.

“Successful bids to this government fund would enhance that work and allow communities to really lead on their own projects, and revitalise our town centres even more. I would encourage any community organisation with a town centre project or plan in need of capital funding to apply.”

Cllr David McBride, vice-convener for infrastructure, regeneration and economic development, added: “Town centres continue to be right at the heart of our communities, both geographically and in terms of importance. So it is vital we continue to generate vibrant new ideas to improve them.

“Community organisations play such a fundamental part in this, and I would urge any group to make use of the fund to achieve their town centre ambitions.”
