West Granton Housing Co-op appoints new governance & compliance manager

David Mills

West Granton Housing Co-operative (WGHC) has named David Mills as its new governance & compliance manager.

This is a new position within WGHC following a recent restructuring of the Senior Management Team.

WGHC’s CEO, Larke Adger, explained: “We looked at the Scottish Housing Regulator’s Regulatory Framework and asked what was the best way for WGHC to ensure we are doing everything we need to be doing? We then asked how this could be achieved? It became apparent that we needed a full time senior management role unique to our organisation which combined the areas of both governance and compliance.

David Mills joins us in January 2021. He brings with him a wealth of senior management experience and expertise working in regulatory environments.

“On behalf of the committee of management, I am delighted to welcome David to the team and look forward to WGHC benefitting from his extensive experience which will be valuable in helping us ensure we continue to meet our statutory and regulatory obligations, along with the setting up of our new internal framework to assist with our self-assessment processes.”

David is currently the outsourced DPO for 28 different organisations, of which 19 are Scottish RSLs.

He said: “I’m really thrilled to be joining Larke and the WGHC team and fulfilling the role of their governance & compliance manager, also encompassing the duties of DPO – so I ensure I keep abreast of the rapidly changing developments in that area.

“For just over two years now I have worked with RSLs and have grown a bit of a ‘soft spot’ for the sector – so much so, that I jumped at the chance to join and, hopefully, play a part in shaping the way in which some aspects of the regulatory elements of the role are thought through, designed and implemented.
I will miss all the former clients I leave behind but hope to keep in touch with many now that I’m in the sector too.”
