Cube environmental staff bought more than 500 chocolate eggs and delivered them to families with youngsters under 16 in Wyndford, Broomhill and Gorget.

Tenant Anita McGinlay, from Gorget, said: “It’s fab that Cube provided Easter eggs for the kids. It really gave them something to look forward to in the lockdown.”

Staff at the Morrison’s store in the Gallowgate also donated 100 Easter eggs which were delivered to families by Wheatley’s Eat Well service.

The donation helped Eat Well – which delivers emergency food parcels to hundreds of vulnerable customers every week – include an Easter egg with each of the 150 deliveries made on Easter Sunday.

Wheatley’s Eat Well service has been massively expanded during the current crisis, with more than 3750 food parcels delivered to vulnerable tenants in just three and a half weeks.

Tuesday of this week saw 357 deliveries in a single day in Glasgow, with the service on course to make 1500 deliveries every week.

Lorraine McLarne, Wheatley Foundation director, added: “We’re doing all we can to support our most vulnerable customers during these difficult times.

“Our lifeline EatWell service has been hugely expanded to support customers in financial hardship, who are ill or self-isolating and feel they have no-one else to turn to for support.”

The expansion of Eat Well is one of a wide range of services and additional measures Wheatley has in place aimed at tackling the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the people and families who live in the 93,000 homes it owns and manages across Scotland, as well as the 7000 people a year it works for in care.

A new Emergency Response Fund set up to help alleviate hardship during the current crisis has seen tenants receiving help to buy essential items from nappies and mobile phone top-ups to a microwave and activity kits for children.

Wheatley also made a donation of £100,000 to Social Bite to help fund its emergency delivery service in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen.

The group has also handed over more than 100 empty homes to local authorities to provide temporary accommodation for homeless people during the crisis.
