140 homes approved for Highland village
The Highland Council has approved plans to build 140 homes in Evanton in Ross-shire.
Councillors praised the plans submitted by the Highland Housing Alliance (HHA), describing them as attractive in an area where housing is much needed.
The development, located at Thomas Maciver Street, will be constructed in seven phases starting with 40 affordable units in a mix of two and three-bedroom semi-detached houses and bungalows, and eight two-bed flats. Later phases of the development will see private units constructed.
The main vehicle access to the development will be from Swordale Road/Hermitage Street with a bend introduced to the south to lead into the site, and new access formed by extending Thomas Maciver Street, The Press and Journal reports.
The developer’s plans include a landscape scheme featuring tree planting, walling and hedging, as well as a wildlife corridor and areas of mown grass within the development.
They also intend to build foot and cycle paths within the development and other paths will mown through meadow grass to provide a choice of formal and informal routes.
The general style of the homes includes grey roof tiles, white dry dash walls and feature stone panel.
In their report, council planners said: “The proposed house designs and layout will create a place with amenity value to future householder.”
HHA has also agreed to contribute £650 per unit to fund various local transport schemes.
