The working group will facilitate closer collaboration that will inform and support the Anti-Poverty Committee advisors in their role with the Council and the wider activity of the Community Planning Partnership. In addition, members of the community will be invited to participate in the working group to ensure the contribution of lived experience.

Aberdeen City Council co-leader, Councillor Christian Allard, said: “The formation of this working group will be fundamental in understanding how we can better support those currently experiencing poverty and inequality.”

Vice convener Councillor Desmond Bouse, added: “The support of this working group will enable us to provide better support to individuals and communities across the city who may be struggling and will help us to tackle the issues currently being faced by so many.”

On 30 May 2023 an Anti-Poverty Workshop was held with the Anti-Poverty Committee external advisers and members of the Community Planning Aberdeen Anti-Poverty Outcome Improvement Group to explore how they could work together with wider partners to achieve their shared outcomes.

As part of a series of planned visits, members of the Anti-Poverty and Inequality Committee visited Aberdeen Foyer on Wednesday to see the valuable partnership working taking place and services being delivered.

The Foyer is a charitable organisation supporting people in the North East of Scotland towards independent living, learning and work.

The committee regularly visits local charities and partner organisations to see first-hand the work they are doing to support residents in our city. The visit to Aberdeen Foyer follows previous visits to Cfine and Shmu Radio.
