The recent AGM of Rural Stirling Housing Association (RSHA) reported on several developments and successes over the previous 12 months.

Highlights included the granting of planning permission for 22 mixed tenure homes in Balmaha and the commencement of construction of 23 flats in Callander and 12 homes in Killearn. In addition, 100 heating systems were renewed, and tenants were assisted in applying for over £80,000 in benefits they were entitled to.

Held in Callander on Scottish Housing Day, RSHA used the opportunity to also mark the Year of Young People by announcing a new Modern Apprenticeship role. Working in partnership with Skills Development Scotland and the Callander Youth Project Trust a young person will be recruited to a two-year Business Administration Modern Apprentice Programme with the Association.

Chairperson Margaret Vass also welcomed incoming CEO Donna Birrell to her first AGM and recognised the new direction the appointment had brought to the organisation.

Thanking those present for their attendance on the day of Storm Ali, Margaret said: “While our housing service performance is good it could still improve, and we have a number of initiatives planned for 2019 including the launch of our Customer Engagement Strategy, investment in IT and expanding and improving our office accommodation to achieve this.

“We need to understand more about the needs of our tenants now and in the future to ensure investment is directed to where it is needed most. Our communities and tenants are always at the heart of everything we do and this Board and our staff will continue to deliver the highest quality service possible.”

There were also Board member changes at the meeting. Joining the Board of management were Martin Earl, councillor for Trossachs and Teith and Alison Smith from Allanpark Consultants Ltd. Retiring after 29 years’ service was David Frood who was thanked for his outstanding contribution and recognised with a long service award.

Immediately before the AGM, a Special Meeting was held when members voted unanimously to accept a resolution for a change to the Association’s rules. The resolution will ensure that the rules are based on the most up to date model for the sector and reflect best practice. The new rules have been lodged with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and will take effect from the date of FCA approval.
