Agreement paves way for delivery of Athletes’ Village Phase Two to begin
Construction of 125 homes at Phase Two of the Athletes’ Village in Glasgow’s Dalmarnock is to begin later this year after a change to the development agreement.
Glasgow City Council yesterday approved a variation in the terms of the development agreement between the council and City Legacy Limited that means the second phase of the Athletes’ Village will begin in one stage rather than the original two.
The original agreement would have seen 49 houses built in the first phase, with 76 in the second. A key reason for the phasing was the location of the ‘SP’ site, owned by Scottish Power and to be acquired by the council, and at the time, the phasing arrangements were designed around this.
The ‘SP’ site is now available, and so it makes commercial sense that construction works commence in one phase.
The 700 flats and houses in the first phase of the Athletes’ Village were completed in 2014.
Councillor Ruari Kelly, convener for neighbourhood services and assets at Glasgow City Council, said: “The Athletes’ Village was a landmark development for Dalmarnock and the East End of Glasgow, bringing high-quality for sale and social rent to the area and was clearly a catalyst for the wider and ongoing regeneration of this part of the city. The approval of the development agreement would allow the construction of the second phase of the development to begin, with all the economic and social benefits this will bring to Glasgow.”
