“The Flowers on the Railings” event, also known as “Lost Lives Day”, is an annual occasion organised to share memories of people who have died.

Some will have been family members who have died over the years while others have been lost in tragic circumstances.

It receives huge support from local residents reflecting the closeness and community spirit generated across Castlemilk.

Flowers were sold in bunches costing £5 or £10 and the event received support from local funeral directors Adams and Duncan while local MP Stewart McDonald also attended.

Ardenglen Housing Association again played its part by purchasing flowers and adding them to the display.

Many individuals did the same creating a floral tribute stretching across railings next to Castlemilk’s memorial garden which is carefully tended and looked after by volunteers throughout the year.

A small marquee was erected so that local schoolchildren from St Batholomew’s Primary could performed a range of uplifting songs while Ardenglen’s musical group known as “All That Glitters” also made their own musical contribution.

Audrey Simpson, chief executive of Ardenglen, said: “This is an significant occasion which reflects the importance the Castlemilk community places on remembering lost loved ones.

“While there is understandable sorrow, the focus is on remembrance and appreciation for lives that have been well lived. Ardenglen feels very privileged to have respectfully played our part.”

This year’s event was the 14th time the occasion has been held.
