Argyll and Bute Council moves to offer affordable housing via Buy Back Scheme
In collaboration with HOMEArgyll Housing Associations, Argyll and Bute Council has announced a new Buy Back Scheme.
In response to the ongoing shortage of affordable housing in the region, this initiative seeks to augment the local social housing stock through the acquisition of properties offered for sale by their owners.
The council has expressed an interest in a variety of property types, including houses, bungalows, and flats, with a particular emphasis on ex-council buildings. However, other properties may also be considered, provided they align with certain prerequisites.
Properties must meet the following criteria:
- There is demand for the type and size of property in that area.
- The combined cost of buying the property and bringing it up to letting standards would represent value for money.
- It is not possible to consider properties if current tenants have to leave to enable a sale.
Councillor Robin Currie, Leader of Argyll and Bute Council, said: “Investing in and delivering quality affordable housing is a key element in creating vibrant, prosperous and thriving local communities across Argyll and Bute.
“We are committed to working with our partners to further strengthen our affordable housing sector which, in turn, will boost the area’s attraction as a place to live and work, encourage further investment and strengthen our local economy.”
