Ayrshire Housing reports another successful year and appoints new board member
Six existing members were re-elected to the volunteer board of Ayrshire Housing at its AGM last Wednesday with one new member joining the team.
A postal ballot for the seven places saw the arrival of new board member Kelsey Kane, the CEO of Ayr-based homelessness charity SeAscape.
Announcing the results, board chair Simon Leslie said “that we have contested elections shows how well we are regarded both by our tenants and the wider public”.
Outlining the results for the previous financial year, he commented: “There was a real fear at the lockdown that housing associations would struggle due to mounting arrears and not being able to let houses. Amazingly due to the commitment of our staff now working from their homes we actually saw arrears fall.
“We also managed to get our letting activity back on track and keep our repairs service going with a focus on safety related work. All this has paid dividends in a continued strong financial position. This will ensure that we can get our planned improvement works back on track and continue to acquire and build much needed new housing.”
Long service awards were made to Rhonda Leith the association’s previous chair and to four staff members.
Mr Leslie added: “We are fortunate in having a staff team who when they come to us seem to stay! Taking into account previous awards, almost a quarter of the team have been with us for 20 or more years.”
The meeting concluded with a prize giving for the winners in the association’s ever popular garden and pet competitions.
