Back to school with a free haircut at Thenue
Free school uniforms and a free haircut got top marks from mums and dads last week in Glasgow’s Calton.
Thenue Communities - the charitable subsidiary of Thenue Housing - teamed up with renowned Glasgow charity The Halliday Foundation to host a Back to School event.
The aim was to help parents by offering free children’s haircuts, free school uniforms in various sizes and a free lunch as the return to school date looms.
The event at the Calton Heritage and Learning Centre in the east end prompted a good turnout from local families keen to snap up the free offer.
Rosie Robertson of Thenue Communities said: “Our Back to School event was a great success and another example of our ongoing partnership with the Halliday Foundation which does such impressive work across the city.
“It showed how together we can tackle the cost of living challenge in one small way by providing free kids’ haircuts and free school uniforms. Needless to say there were some very smart kids with stylish haircuts by the time the event was over. These occasions are essential to creating a sense of community wellbeing and we are proud to play a crucial role in making that happen.”
The uniforms in various sizes including shoes were generously donated to the Halliday Foundation by supermarket giant ASDA.
The haircuts were provided free by barber Jack Paton from The Regency Barber Lounge in Glasgow city centre and Akar and Kammy from MX Barbers - just a stone’s throw away from the CHLC in nearby Bridgeton.
Chris Halliday, director of operations at the Halliday Foundation, said: “We greatly value our ongoing work with Thenue as we endeavour to help communities wherever we have a presence. The various initiatives led by Thenue Communities are a shining example of how together we can make a difference in people’s lives. Our Back to School event is just one way of helping and we thank everyone who was involved in making it such a success.”
Rosie added: “We very much appreciate the willingness of our three barbers to help out in such a brilliant way using their impressive skill and time to help local families.”
