The judges, from Nurture Landscapes who made a donation towards the prizes, reported a high standard of entries and said Bob’s garden was “a great use of a variety of plants.”

Runner-up, and winner of £75 in vouchers, was Susan Dalgleish of Priory Bank in Coldstream. Joint third, winning £50 vouchers each, were John White of The Avenue, Eyemouth, and Leanne Charlton of Hillview, Coldstream.

The competition offered tenants the chance to showcase their beautiful outdoor spaces. Whether it’s was a garden, flowerbed, hanging basket or pots on the patio, BHA wanted to recognise the tenants who take pride in their outdoor areas which have such a positive impact in our communities.

Delighted winner Bob said: “Our garden is basically all flowers and it has taken a couple of years to develop it into what it is now. When we first came here it was just a bit of brown dirt!

“It’s now more of a ‘fairy garden’ for local children to come and see. We like to think we have brightened up the street and like people to come in and have a look around the garden.”

Judge James Tully of Nurture Landscapes commented: “It was difficult to judge because there was so many different ideas, and this is expected as a garden is personal. It doesn’t matter if it was a window box or a large-scale project, entering this competition makes them all winners and was great to see.

“The top four are a mixture of mature to modern gardens and the winner showed the progress made from early stages of development. The use of water features, rocks and gravels as well as the variety of plants used throughout the garden and the constant maintenance and effort that has gone into this garden was evident for all to see.”
