Bield hosts party fit for a Queen
Tenants at Bield’s very sheltered housing development in West Lothian enjoyed a royal tea party to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday – with their own development ‘Queen’ as the crowning glory.
Margaret Laurie, who herself is due to celebrate her 95th birthday in July of this year, was nominated by her fellow tenants as ‘Queen’ for the day leading everyone in a day of jubilant celebrations.
Rena Kirton-Vaughan, manager at Brae Court, said: “The other tenants decided that Margaret would be the perfect Queen for the day and she had a great time.
“Her family were very proud of the part she played and her daughter helped her get ready for the party.”
Grandmother of 20, with one great grandson, Margaret was extremely grateful for the honour bestowed upon her.
She said: “I am so thankful to everyone for nominating me to be Brae Court’s Queen.
“We all had a fabulous day, it really was a fantastic celebration. I have lived here for 13 years and there is always something going on. It’s a brilliant place to be.”
Party goers, staff and ‘Queen Margaret’, kitted out in a crown and gown, enjoyed music from Mr Peter McQuade MBE on the accordion and were treated to a buffet lunch of sandwiches and sausage rolls.
Staff then organised a game of bingo and play your cards right, before everyone tucked into a fish supper, served to her Majesty in the finest newspaper.
Rena added: “We hold parties here at Brae Court regularly to mark special occasions and they are very popular.
“We are always looking for ways to enhance and enrich the lives of tenants and we feel hosting events such as these does exactly that.
“It is great to see everyone having fun and laughing. I look forward to many more events like this in the future.”
