Elizabeth Wilson bids farewell to her current role after banking over £12,000 in total for Macmillan Cancer Support in more than 20 years in charge.

Glebe Court has become one of the most prolific coffee morning hosts for Macmillan and their fundraising manager for Ayrshire, Laura Stockwell said: “We are so grateful for this donation. No one should have to face cancer alone and with support like this, they won’t have to.

“This donation will go a long way to helping us be there for people with cancer and their families.”

The event also included a raffle with prizes being donated by staff.

Glebe Court first opened their doors to encourage tenants to meet socially when the original coffee morning raised £100.

Elizabeth looked back fondly on her time at Glebe Court saying: “I started with Bield here as the manager in May 1994 and held our first coffee morning that September.

“Macmillan has been a charity close to our hearts as we have had staff who have survived and my own husband who we sadly lost five years ago.

“This was my last one as manager but I’m sure I’ll be at many more as a volunteer after I retire next summer.”

The busy morning meet attracts many locals who have been showing their support by taking part for the last 20 years.

Treats on offer at this year’s morning included scones and jam, strawberry tarts, fresh cream meringues, pancakes and home-made tablet, courtesy of three talented cooks, one of whom returned from retirement to lend a hand.
